2023 Dog Days of Summer

To Gather. To Learn. To Be.

Welcome to Dog Days of Summer at the GLC!

Join us for an unforgettable celebration of our four-legged friends at the Gene Lucas Community Center’s newest annual event, started in 2023. We’ve created this special occasion with one goal in mind – to bring the Eel River Valley community together for the love of dogs.

Our Dog Days of Summer festival is packed with free activities for families and their beloved canines. There’s something for everyone, from art enthusiasts to active pups and their owners!

Follow each Tuesday’s events HERE

It’s time to shine the spotlight on some exceptional pups! Each nominated dog will have a chance to raise funds for a dog charity close to their heart. Get ready to be inspired by heartwarming stories of compassion and love.

Every Tuesday from 5-7 PM bring your donation of unopened dog food to donate to Miranda’s Rescue! Use your dog food donation to vote for your Dog of the Year contestant!

Immerse yourself in the world of canine-inspired art. Local artists have poured their hearts into crafting beautiful and expressive pieces that capture the essence of our furry companions. Our gallery is open every Tuesday in August from 5-7 PM. Curated by Allen Cassidy with The Ink People.

This year we will be offering three different dog art activities including:

  • Paint Your Pup: You can either bring a photo of your pup or use one of our Dog of the Year contestants’ pictures provided. We’ll help you bring your pup’s image to life!
  • Spot Van Dog: Let your pooch unleash their inner artist by creating a peanut butter licking painting. You can take home your dog’s masterpiece as a treasured keepsake.
  • Pup Portraits: Have a beautiful family photo taken, including your adorable pup, by the talented professional photographer Sandi Peterson. We accept donations, and your contribution will also count as a vote for your favorite dog in the Dog of the Year contest. The chosen charity of the contestants will benefit from your support!

For a full week (Aug 12-19), you and your furry friend can take part in dock jumping! Dash and Splash is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the joy and health of our furry friends by offering dog dock jumping for the community.

Reservations open August 11. See their Facebook for more information: https://www.facebook.com/groups/humboldtdashsplash

Leash up your furry friend and join our delightful community dog walks around our campus every Tuesday from 5-7PM.

Email your puppy pics to hayley@glccenter.org to be featured in the GLC lobby all August!
